PONDSThe three ponds on the property are fed in part by two seasonal streams, one of which in a wet year can run for six months. Recorded water rights guarantee that no neighbor can block or divert this water. All the ponds will support fish populations along with crayfish, frogs and newts. At times trout, channel catfish, koi, pumpkinseeds and goldfish have thrived, but otters, herons, eagles, kingfishers, mink and raccoons take their toll and eventually restocking becomes necessary. Most years ducks manage to spend a few weeks on the ponds. In two of the ponds, maximum depths are 10 to 13 feet.WATER SYSTEM
The private well produces over 400 gallons per day. Water is pumped to a storage tank with a nominal capacity of 11,600 gallons, and flows by gravity from there to a pressure tank in the basement of the Shop/Apartment Building and then distributed under pressure to the various buildings and outdoor hydrants. In event of a power outage, water is still available at low pressure due to gravity.
IRRIGATION SYSTEM
Through separate yard hydrants with check valves, the vegetable and flower gardens can be irrigated using either well water or pond water. Most years, it becomes prudent to use pond water in the hot season. A commercial grade clock controls irrigation of the flower and vegetable garden areas through drip hoses.
